The Lauteracher Ried is one of the last habitats in the county of Vorarlberg in which the ground-nesting bird species still occur.

Curlews, black-tailed godwits, even corn crakes have found a home in the marsh that is the Lauteracher Ried. As have larks, stonechats and whinchats that have long since died out elsewhere. That’s also one of the reasons why the southern core zone is strictly protected – the marsh is a breeding and habitat for characteristic bird species. But that’s only 80 hectares of the approximately 800-hectare area. So there’s enough space for long walks, bike rides and picnics in the countryside.
